Naib Presiden PAS, Dato’ Husam Musa: Jangan Salahkan Carburetor Dung
Wednesday, 09 July 2008 12:43

It’s out in the papers and the blogs/portals:

malaysiakini.com

as I wrote on ricecooker:

Friends all, kami semua OK (Alak ada benjol sikit kat dahi). kami perlu berterima kasih pada pemuda-pemuda AMK (Angkatan Pemuda Keadilan - t-shirt biru) yang rata-rata marah tapi masih cuba sedaya-upaya menyelamatkan kami dari segerombolan pemuda-pemuda berbaju merah yang memang ready to rip us apart. With the help of AMK, we all managed to sneak out of the stadium (separately) after about 20 minutes being under siege.

The problem here is our song “Mari Nyanyi Menjilat”. Macam biasa, Alak did his exposing his underwear thing and of course dalam situasi panas tentang “liwat-meliwat” sekarang, aku rasa that gesture was misunderstood by the people there.

Some reports I saw also misquoted the title as “Liwat” instead of “Jilat”, so if some bloggers made the mistake, I’m sure a lot of the people in the stadium misunderstood too. So many took umbrage lah, thinking that we were making fun of Anwar. Actually I even explained to the crowd the gist of the song before we played it.

The thing is aku rasa Alak was in his “auto-pilot” mode. We have been playing that song for a long time and to a lot of people for years already and Alak have always been doing that to heighten the “satire”. The kids in the scene would get the joke all the time but we can’t expect the same from the public. That’s our mistake.

Anyways, apart from the guys in AMK, we also must thank Tom (Skitzofrenia) who shielded Alak from a lot blows, and in the process also got some benjol-benjol. Much thanks to Mad Yus (Apparatus), Poodien, Mirdza (Relationsheep), Black and many more who were there and helped out.

BTW; Mari Nyanyi Menjilat (not Mari Belajar Menjilat, as Malay Mail wrote) is about integrity or the lack of it; the mother of corruption…

Boo Hoo in JB - For the very first time!

This is taken by Atia on our digital camera (as the DV cam somehow went kaput!). It’s also the only clip of us playing the Konsert D’Selatan 5, City Plaza, JB; unless someone else would post up his/her clips.

Anyway, we’ve never played JB before, so this is the first time Boo Hoo got aired in JB! Pretty weird since that song is now like 15 years old!

“It’s like you’re having a baby”

“It’s like you’re having a baby”, said Bullet on my anxiety over the mix we did last night.

Me, Fendi and him spent the Friday night and the whole of Saturday morning mixing the new recordings at our recently departed friend’s studio; a small room at the side of the AVXS office on Robson Heights.

Usually used for vocal recording/dubbing and video editing, it’s adequate for simple mixing sessions but too small to fit in a drum set to do a proper live recording. However, the room’s properly sound-proofed and features a decent pair of monitoring speakers and a small powered-mixer.

It’s a bit strange to be there without Jalil. But his legacy is all over the place. The left-handed Epiphone guitar he used to strum is still there, his reading glasses, his treasured Sony 3CCD video cam and banks of DV tapes and I bet there are his songs in the hard disk on that PC he always used.

New Album On The Way Still!

Yesterday and last night (Sunday, April 6th) we all congregated at my house to record Tom’s guitar tracks on the nine songs we’ve recorded in June last year. Progress has been slow since we are all too caught up with work and stuff but the finishing line is inching closer.

At this point, we now need to record one or two more songs and also get Yandsen (and hopefully, Ah Tham) to record the skronking saxophone stuff we need. After that we will do mastering and get the sleeve art done. We are trying to do all that just before we leave for Java in May. Not much time there but we’ll try to make it.

Meanwhile, do listen to this rough mix of Aku Mau Jadi Anjing Mu, our version of The Stooges’ classic with our very own Malay comment on the scourge of the nation; the “ampu-man” or the “cable-guy” - those who elected themselves as business representatives of the (”close-one-eye”) politicians in power, currying favours for tenders and projects, greasing the hands of corruption and swimming in millions of dirty ill-gotten kickbacks.

This is the original recording done in June last year, so there’s still no tracks by Tom or Yandsen. Rough mix by Bullet on March 13th.

Aku Mau Jadi Anjing Mu

Aku memang kaki nyundal,
Cium pungkok, aku pakar!
Orang besar semua ku kenal
Call me Tan Sri Muka Tebal!

And now I wanna be your dog
Now I wanna be your dog
Now I wanna be your dog

(bridge)

Well Kamon!

Aku memang ada harga,
Mulut nganga, suap pulus,
Senang aku tutup mata,
Tanggung beres, jalan terus!

And now I wanna be your dog
Now I wanna be your dog
Now I wanna be your dog

(bridge)

Well Kamon!

Project: The Allure of Manure & More CD

A lot of people have been asking about our 1999 mini-album, The Allure of Manure. Mostly enquiries on whether it will be available again. The tape has been out of circulation for a long time now, that is unless you hunt down for the Sheep Farming in Malaysia 7″ EP which features four songs from Allure. But even that would only be available on some overseas distros somewhere, in the “bargain” section!

Anyway, around June 2007, right after recording nine new songs for the upcoming new album, we gave the old “pre-mastered” tracks of The Allure of Manure to our friend Lasse to remaster.

Two days ago I got the tracks back from Lasse, all nicely remastered! Now, there’s more highs, and more space in the mix, with angrier/fatter guitar sound and more refined bass! There’s nothing much he can do with the “flabby” snare sound but there’s not much you can do when the tracks are already “flattened” anyway.

But that’s not the only thing, I’ve also given him five extra tracks, taken from all the compilations we’ve appeared in from the Dari Jemapoh Ke Manchestee soundtracks (1996) to the tribute to Hijrah/The Pilgrims CD-R compilation (The Dude Puked On My Lap) and also the 2006’s Radio Malaya compilation.

So all in all we have 13 songs for this rerelease and it’s going to be called “The Allure of Manure and More”. The plan is to rerelease it on CD format and also on cassettes in Indonesia (very limited copies).

At the moment I’m redesigning the sleeve and hoping to press them next week. So stay tuned!

Java Tour TUA 2008

What's So Funny About Love, Understanding & Fermented Filth?

Nothing apart from the smell actually.

Carburetor Dung has been around since 1991, in different permutations and persuasions.

There were times of hibernation and "project bands" but The Dung always comes back kicking.

The current incarnation has been active since 2005 with Fendi - bass, Joe Kidd - guitar, Alak - vocals and Bullet - drums.

Late 2007, we added old friend Tom Bollocks on the other guitar.

Upcoming Dung Stuff

A new album has been in the works since June 2007, it will feature around 10 songs to be released by The Riceccoker Shop on CD format somewhere in June 2008.
