Recording Ugly, Ugly, Ugly…

The band will be recording tonight at the Bsync Studio, contributing a song for Bar Council’s MyConstitution campaign compilation CD RADIO DEMOKRATIKA. The song will be THE SHITWORKERS old tune from 1994, with a new verse added to touch upon our despairing view on the effectiveness of what is called as the “democratic election” process – where people go to vote, again and again, resulting with a few new faces supposedly representing them but ultimately with no substantial change in the quagmire we are all trapped in.

UGLY, UGLY, UGLY (So Ugly, We Had to Say It Three Times)

Do tell me one thing,
Do tell me what’s your story?
Do take a look here,
Where’s everything we hold dear?

Give back my senses,
Gimme some space for breathing,
This world you’re selling,
You know I won’t be buying

You are… you are…

Do tell me two things,
These strings I see on your being,
Scissors to the reins, dear?
Or that’s the only tune you’ll hear?

Give up your dances,
I’m not your blind believing
This world you’re selling,
You know I won’t be buying

You are… you are…

You’re ugly
Too blind too proud to see
Suffocates me

You’re ugly….

Still Pissed After All These Years Comp Review

Our good friend Subs stumbled upon a review of the CD-R (btw; still available as FREE download here). Apart from mistaking where DUNG is from (we are apparently from the Philippines!) and some of the song titles, the review is rather good!

from: musicemissions.com

CARBURETOR DUNG – STILL PISSED AFTER ALL THESE YEARS

“Philippine hardcore legends Carburetor Dung have, as their name implies, specialized in sloppy punk with a sense of jaded humor for the past decade. “Still Pissed” covers a sort of best of going back to 1993′s “Songs for Friends,” and includes samples from other records and anthology appearances, as well as two tracks from their most recent, 2008′s “Ingin Ku Rejam Rakasa Kejam.”

The two most recent tracks lead off the set, and show the band hasn’t strayed too far from their roots. While “Semua Sama Semua Bosan (Everything’s The Same, Everything’s Boring)” has some prog touches,

“Hanturaya Putrajaya (Putrajaya’s Diabolical Ghost)” is the best hardcore song I’ve heard in years: loud, fast, snotty, off-key sax in the back of the mix; pure Gang Green meets Fear. Whoa.

The band, anchored since the beginning by bassist Fendi and Joe Kidd on guitar, have a frenzied old school sound that is fresh and fist-pumping. While not meant to be anthems (this band is nothing if not geniuses of the anti-statement), songs like “Mari Nyanyi Menjilat (Lets Sing The Licking Arse Song)” and “Johnny (Punk Not Death!)” fit anyone’s definition of anthems.

From “The Allure of Manure” mini-record of 1999, steamy goodness emanates from “The Line” and “Do Nothing” while from their debut, while any song restores your faith in humanity, “Carburetor Dance,” “Song for a Friend,” and the sardonic “Labour of Hate,” (an off-key, sloppy drunken acoustic masterpiece) do stand out.

With the appropriately named collection, Carburetor Dung reveal a mostly unknown catalog of gems from one of the greatest hardcore bands you’ve never heard of. “Still Pissed After All These Years” can be had for free through the band; get it. It’s damaged and glorious stuff.”

BTW: Dung is again mistaken from another country in this news post by that magazine FHM Philippines (!!!). This time we are an Indonesian band! : “Dung…still pissed after all these years at B-Side.

It seems that every week B-Side has something up their sleeve that surprises most of us. This week, they’re bringing Carburetor Dung from Indonesia to give us a sampling of indie music from our Asian neighbor.” – from here

Sunday, 8th August 2010: Punk Fest @ Blackhole 212, Singapore

image

At last we are playing the much revered Singapore DIY Punk venue, BLACKHOLE 212, which is actually said to be closing down somewhere later this month. Another plus point is us playing with old friends OPPOSITION PARTY, Singapore’s oldest punk band still going! Joe and Bullet actually jammed with OP on-stage at Metallica Lounge, Pertama in KL back in 1990 – Joe sung two songs while Bullet played “weirdo” guitar with the then trio of Francis, Lee Piau and Mike!

Other bands are pretty awesome;

Lee jamming with D’Kugiran in Melbourne

D’Kugiran features The Pilgrims guitarist Kombat; so when the band played Melbourne recently, Lee (our old vocalist and also The Pilgrims’ original vocalist) joined in for a few numbers.

Sua Sue Good Morning: The old Hijrah/Pilgrims classic tune – a fast and rocking reworking of traditional malay children song.

Home Jam & Emma

It’s been a while since all of us meet for a jam, well at least with Tom. So we had a meet at Joe’s house and had a nice time larking around with a few old tunes and a song by Sumbang for us to play this Tuesday.

Friday, 17th April 2010: A Bit of Dung in Adelaide! The Twin Carburetors!

image

Organised by Dung ex-members Lee & Pari, both living in Adelaide; with appearances from Kuala Lumpur friends: members of The Pilgrims, The Republic Brickfields, Kugiran D’Tepi Pantai etc.

==================

So it happened that Kugiran D’Tepi Pantai (featuring The Pilgrims old guitarist Kombat) was invited to play a Malaysian student event in Melbourne, Aru (Koffin Kanser & The Republic of Brickfields) tagged along from KL; and Lee (Dung’s old singer, also original The Pilgrims) joined in the fun; he went down there from Adelaide and appeared on stage with Kugiran, playing a few old The Pilgrims & Dung tunes.

A few days later, they all went to Lee & Pari (also ex-Dung from the first line-up) place in Adelaide and had this gig; a bit of Carburetor Dung re-union of sorts in Adelaide with a proper gig and also a celebration for Lee’s birthday.

Here’s a part of the show where they played DUNG tunes:
