Saturday, 9th January 2010: Carburetor Dung goes “A-KAOS-TIC” @ Frinjan 7, Shah Alam

2010_01_dung_frinjan7

Dung playing another all acoustic set! The last time we played this way; Joe & Tom were on acoustic guitars, with Fendi on electric bass and Bullet on minimal drums (just the kick, snare and a cymbal).

It’s also the band’s first show for the new year! So come and join in the fun. We are scheduled to play between 9 to 10 PM. The Ricecooker Shop will have a stall open at 5.30PM.

Sunday, 13th December 2009: Carburetor Dung Goes Acoustic @ Amnesty International’s Human Rights Day, The Annexe

image

Dung will be going acoustic for AI’s International Human Rights Day. Unlike what we’ve been doing before, this time we are hopeful that all in the band will be able to play, instead of just Joe & Alak on two acoustic guitars. Songs we’re planning to do includes The Gibran Song, a tune we wrote back in the mid-90s but never recorded which is about the death of compassion in the plight of the Palestinian struggle and refugees (influenced by the writings of Khalil Gibran).

AI’s website stated thus:

7.00 pm: Solidarity Night : Dari Rakyat Untuk Rakyat.

A Special Tribute to Human Rights Defenders by the artist of the Dari Rakyat Untuk Rakyat Project and Friends.

The Project, an independent initiative undertaken by singer songwriter Meor Yusof Izzidin and friends is best described as the first of is kind in the history of Malaysian folk music featuring various artists including Amin Iskandar & Mei Chern expressing the many various human rights and social justice issues in Malaysia. Also featured are social activist singer songwriters/band Carburetor Dung & Jerome Kugan, poet and artist Rahmat Haron and performance artist Khuber & Han

Sunday, 8th November 2009: Buzzcocks @ 1Cafe, KL

image

Yes, an old dream given up years ago but somehow turning up unexpectedly and it seems to be coming true. I think the first tune I heard of Buzzcocks was “Breakdown”, the first tune from the band’s debut EP “Spiral Scratch”, 30 years ago. It was love at first listen…

Anyway, each support band is supposed to play a 15 minutes set, nothing more, which is cool since i’d be gagging for Buzzcocks anyway. SO we thought maybe we plan for a revisit of old tunes, playing four songs from the old days. Or maybe we should write a new song to spice up the rehearsal a bit. hmmm.

What's So Funny About Love, Understanding & Fermented Filth?

Nothing apart from the smell actually.

Carburetor Dung has been around since 1991, in different permutations and persuasions.

There were times of hibernation and "project bands" but The Dung always comes back kicking.

The current incarnation has been active since 2005 with Fendi - bass, Joe Kidd - guitar, Alak - vocals and Bullet - drums.

Late 2007, we added old friend Tom Bollocks on the other guitar.
