Post-Show Report:

As mentioned most of us haven’t been to Tampin. We started here round 2 pm on the Dung Mobile. Alak came to the house first and later Manan, Tom & Bullet came to pick us up. Bullet got his drum-stools and new cymbals. But the surprise was when I opened up the boot to put in my guitar; Tom has brought along our Marshall head. So I decided to bring the Krank head. It’s been siting in the house gathering dust. I haven’t touched it since we brought it back from Singapore.

We went to pick up Fendi from the editing house (he’s editing his latest movie Songlap), went for lunch near the Selangor FA place. Then went straight south. Stopped over at Tom’s house and there he shown us his big metal box full of old cassettes! I rummaged inside there for a bit but didn’t have time to really go through the whole box. However I found two rare recordings: the first is the master tape for PUSHER’s first demo! The other one is a tape dub of the 7″ compilation – Hapuskan ISA! released by View Beyond -Czech Republic in 1997.

Anyway, we got to the Seventh Heaven Studio quite late. Managed to catch Seelan’s band (ILA MITRA) for a bit. The studio is nice. It’s just perfect for small shows. It’s about 500 sq feet, maybe 600; with a new stage on the long-side; good amps too. It could better with a more powerful PA and also monitors, but it’s alright.

I believe 100 people would cram up the space and it’s hot as hell; just right for a good punk rock show. Met the owner, Madi and he said the studio has been around for three years with the gig-space opened up a year or so ago. Seventh Heaven has been hosting a lot of shows and the deal is very simple; the organiser just pay the fee for a whole day (studio rental) and that’s it!

image

It’s on the 3rd floor of a bazzar-style building with roof over the walkway and big corridors. Also heard the space is quite connected with the authorities so there’s no problem with the police and such. Being on the third floor, it helps too; no kids spilling over the sidewalk and pissing off the neighbours!

Wouldn’t it be great if every small town and city in this country has a similar diy-friendly space! The sad thing is I heard that a few spaces such as that are now closing down. Is there no support? Weird.

We took quite a while to setup since we had our own amp heads and also Bullet with his cymbals and stuff. But the show went off good. We had a blast. We playing quite a long set too. The Krank head was okay, i didn’t know what to do with that much; Bullet said later that the cabinet at the studio was not big enough to really bring out the devil, hmmm.

Friday, 10th December 2010: It’s A Nightmare @ Palate Pallete, KL

image

The Ricecooker Shop’s shitworker aiman organised a show at Palate Pallete featuring his new band SWAMPY ZOMBIE FEVER, Alak’s other band PUSHER, the great GARRISON, the recently revitalised MAHARAJAH COMMISSION and the very good FRIDAYS.

Dung was at the mamak shop nearby having a meeting and then decided to join in. We played three songs after not jamming for months! Good night and THE GARRISON rawks!!

Saturday, 27th November 2010: The Abang Guard with Damo Suzuki, Live in KL! @ The Annexe, KL

image

The Abang Guard gets together with Yandsen & Lee Kwang and members of CIPLAK (Azmyl Yunor, Ronnie & Aziz) for a bit of improv night with Mr. DAMO SUZUKI! Yeah!

Sunday, 8th August 2010: Punk Fest @ Blackhole 212, Singapore

image

At last we are playing the much revered Singapore DIY Punk venue, BLACKHOLE 212, which is actually said to be closing down somewhere later this month. Another plus point is us playing with old friends OPPOSITION PARTY, Singapore’s oldest punk band still going! Joe and Bullet actually jammed with OP on-stage at Metallica Lounge, Pertama in KL back in 1990 – Joe sung two songs while Bullet played “weirdo” guitar with the then trio of Francis, Lee Piau and Mike!

Other bands are pretty awesome;

Finally, after not too much thoughts and planning, we are going to visit Manila in late July. Thanks to our artist friends there; Mervin Espina & Donna Miranda; who thought about having us there while being drunk one night and contacted us! They and our good mates Albert Ascona, Emmanuel & Dha; all of which have been asking us to go there and play for years; will sort out when and where we will be playing. If you’re in town, do come and hang out!

G H O S T : A solo project by Roslisham Ismail @ Ise
Friday, April 16, 2010 at 6:00pm to Monday, April 19, 2010 at 12:00am
15, Jalan Mesui, Off Jalan Nagasari, 50200, Kuala Lumpur

We are invited by Ise and crew to play this Sunday, right after two planned sets by DEEPSET. The venue is an old shop lot (next door to No Black Tie) owned by our friend Yati which is now fast becoming a venue of sort! Bullet have been working with Ise and gang preparing for the exhibition in the capacity of the technical guru, with our Tom doing a bit of wire soldering, and Joe helping out with minor software installs.

exhibit notes:

GHOST is a highly collaborative project and is co-curated by Vincent Leong and Eva McGovern who are also working with members from legendary KL bands: Bullet (Carburetor Dung) and Bob (The Pilgrims). Taking place over a long weekend the project will open with a DJ-set by Asung (Jakarta) and Dan (Sydney). There will be a special closing event with a live performance by local post rock band Deepset who will be musically responding to the drawings to create a spectacular finale to this intricate and ambitious project.

Tuesday, 9th February 2010: Rice Above! #01 @ Cloth & Clef

image

presented by The Ricecooker Shop and Cloth & Clef

RICE ABOVE #01
You Can’t Keep A Good Scene Down!

This is the first of a series of Tuesday gigs happening at Cloth & Clef. An attempt at breaking that “weekend-only” curse which had been a bane of the DIY scene since forever! More shows happening every Tuesday from now on. Do come and kick that ghost of crap jobs and sadistic bosses following you home!

TUESDAY, 9th of February 2010
Show starts at 8.30PM
Entrance is RM10
CLOTH & CLEF, Changkat Bukit Bintang (map HERE)

bands:

DUNG (aka Carburetor Dung)
- an ancient specimen of Malaysian punk rawk still surviving from early 90s; this is basically because they are too lazy to move on to “better and bigger” things. DUNG have gone through a lot of different phases since then; from melodic, singalong street-punk popular with toddlers to mellow, cringe-worthy acoustic moments with loud, blaring hardcore-punk of their own interpretation in-between.

PUSHER
- a lively crew of late 20s playing a mix of The Clash’s anthemic firebrand punk rock and the more modern ghetto-blasting influences from the 90s Gilman St. Scene with a bit of reggae and hard-blues stabbed hard somewhere in their guts. Recently released their much-awaited debut album entitled “Our Beloved City of the Dead”; a tribute to this metropolis of ours, especially its zombiefied useless inhabitants.

THE GARRISON
- a relatively new addition to the stubborn local DIY punk rock scene but one of the most promising. THE GARRISON is a collision of raw classic punk rock sound of the late ‘70s, spiced up with hard, dirty skanking reggae. A full-length album is in the works but a taster is available in the recently released CD-R EP called Flooding Blood.

myspace.com/beatgarrison

SWAMPY ZOMBIE FEVER
- freshly-baked mysterious disease by hyperactive youngster Aiman, who is DUM DUM TAK’s drummer and the mainman for FRU & CIVIL DISORDER. This band is so new we don’t even know how it sounds like. But knowing Aiman, we know it’s gonna be rockin’

(no site yet)

Note; DUNG may play two sets, an acoustic and then electric one, that is if their bones and joints would not seize up.

THOSE WHO WANNA SETUP STALLS TO SELL STUFF, DO CALL US. YOU”RE ALL INVITED!
